John Curley

John Curley is waking up early for Seattle's Morning News

No longer will John Curley be with you while you brush your teeth in the evenings. Instead, he'll be there when your alarm goes off in the early morning hours.

John, who seems to have a story for every occasion, is the new host of Seattle's Morning News effective Monday Oct. 22.

"My goal every morning is to make sure anyone listening gets to work feeling a little smarter and a little happier," said Curley. "I want our show to be as necessary as that second cup of coffee in the morning. Tea drinkers are welcome too."

John Curley will be joined by trusted KIRO Radio news anchor Ursula Reutin and co-host Tom Tangney.

John started as a TV weatherman in Colorado with no actual training or meteorological background. He eventually found himself in Seattle hosting Evening Magazine on KING-TV. He credits that 14 year experience with where he developed the skill to take most mundane moments of life and turn them into a hilarious story-telling.

Not only does John coach his son's pee wee football team and make big decisions on the Sammamish City Council, he's also a sought after auctioneer. He Googled "talking jobs," paid $36.50 for a Ralph Wade CD "Auctioneering My Way," and began practicing his fast talking skills. He hasn't shut up since.

Listen to John's 'show that never aired' (Oct. 17)

Tune in to Seattle's Morning News weekdays from 5 to 9 a.m. on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM or stream it live and on-demand anytime at KIRORADIO.com.

    This is awesome!!
Now I can tune back in to listen to the KIRO morning show. Couldn't stand listening to Bill Radke and his passive aggressive liberalism. I caught a little of John and Rachel Bell - those two are great together - great on air chemistry. I also really like listening to Ursula - Dori is going to miss having her on his show, but she will be great on the morning show. Great moves KIRO!

    Passive aggressive liberalism
Oh, you mean like 95.8% of Seattle? Agreed. I guess in that respect Radke was a good representative of the demographic.

    At last...
John is very listenable, unlike Bill. It wasnt his subject matter it was just...trying to listen to him. Please John, don't implode. I'll miss Linda but I'm going to tune back to 97.3 in the mornings again and give it a go. ALSO, if KIRO management EVER puts David Boze and Rachelle Bell together for even one shift again, I'll take you guys off the auto button. Sure, you need bodies to take the helm somedays but those two together was like teaming up J.P Patches and Robert Mack for 3 hours. Rachelle was actually starting to run out of material to keep it all going..

    Not a Curley Fan
When I am getting ready for work, I want light entertainment, news updates AND THE TIME! CURLEY NEVER SAYS THE TIME because he is so involved with his convoluted stories. I loved Bill Radke but I can't take Curley in the morning. Loved Linda too. Switching stations!

    "CURLY NEVER SAYS THE TIME"
Those shows you were listeining to were pre recorded and the second half of the show is a repeat of the first half.

I hope you do well John and don't let KIRO give the Radke treatment

    Switching stations
Will be switching to a new station. Can't stand John's pointless ego rants. I do like Ursula, but not enough to overcome Curley. Sorry KIRO thought this to be a good move.

SO GLAD to see Badke gone
I can't count the number of times I've switched away from 97.3 in the morning, due to Biil Badke. Don't know where he went, certainly won't go looking for him. John Curley is OK, but, then again, DEAD AIR is better than Badke.

    Good Programming move...
...I will start listening to the mornings on again on KIRO as it was certainly NOT "News Talk" because with Bill Snore Radke and crowd..it was LIBERAL NEWS COMMENTARY and they did not even try to hide that fact...at least Curley is entertaining... not passing himself off as a newsman. John will give the morning shows in the region a run for their money..so watch your ratings dance, Rivers, B.J. and Fitz...

    Early
Luckily mynorthwest provides podcast or half the new show would be lost to many Curley fans. Only chronic HSN addicts are up at five am!

    Gone
I'm gone as well in the mornings. I won't be able to listen to John for any amount of time. Maybe I'll be able to listen at night again? Sad change. I'll have to find a new news source after 12 years. Sigh.

Good news, bad news...finding a new morning radio station...
Good news...I'm not sad to see Linda go as a regular host. She often came across as self-righteous (e.g., I'm a Mom, so I'm the only one who knows what it's like to be busy or to really care about a story), while Ursula is a great addition. Bad news...does the KIRO audience really, really need more John Curley? I was happier when he was (occasionally) on his own evening show and left the mornings alone. When he would guest host (more often than not, he was on other shows more than he was on his own!), I'd turn off KIRO until Ross & Burbank came on at 9. And heaven help me if he was hosting for Dave or Luke. KIRO, I'll see you at 9:00 a.m., until you decide to make it Ross, Burbank & Curley, at which time we will part ways.
