John Curley

Lineup changes at KIRO Radio

John Curley is no longer hosting Seattle's Morning News. He's still in the KIRO Radio family and we're working with him to find the best possible platform for his talent. The change was made, because KIRO Radio has been hearing from a LOT of you that you want straight-forward news, traffic and weather first thing in the morning - saving the talk shows for later in the day. We heard that message loud and clear. So, effective today we've made some adjustments to our lineup and we're doubling up on news in the morning with more news each hour delivered by two of the most respected news voices in the Northwest: Dave Ross and Linda Thomas.

KIRO RADIO LINEUP
4a-5a The Wall Street Journal
5a-9a Seattle's Morning News with Dave Ross & Linda Thomas (featuring all of the day's top stories, with traffic & weather together every 10 minutes on the 7s).
9a-10a Ross & Burbank
10a-Noon The Luke Burbank Show (with contributors including Tom Tangney and others.)
Noon-3p The Dori Monson Show
3p-7p The Ron & Don Show
7p-10p The Andrew Walsh Show
10p-4a Coast to Coast with George Noory

Thank you for listening.

Best Regards,

Larry Gifford, KIRO Radio Program Director

    please don't take John!!
My husband and I love John Curley. He is just plain FUN to listen to. I loved him in the mornings. Take Ron and Don off the air instead!

Be kind and strong and funny
I was dubious when it was put out that Curly was going to be doing the AM show, but I'm going to miss his morning segment "Be kind, be strong and funny when you can" :(. Seriously I would make sure to not be away from my head phones at work whenever that segment was coming up.

    in addition
It is clear that the silent majority were happy with Curly on in the mornings. It's always the squeaky wheel!

    Changes....
Although I do like JC, I too missed the news in the morning. With all of his other outside commitments hopefully a good fit will be found for him. And on the subject of R&D I LOVE their afternoon show. I'm not one to just "jump ship" but if they go, I go at least for that time slot anyway.

    I understand....it makes sense
JC is a huge personality. HUGE. He's full of stories and has one for everything. Ron & Don even joke about him on their show. He's been involved or has done absolutely everything and he's willing to tell you a very animated account of it. Great entertainer. I think he's a little to **ON** for the morning crowd. Ross is a better fit for the morning. I agree with others that he and Burbank are great together, but Burbank can certainly carry this on his own. He is extremely witty, quick, and has a great on-air personality. He already has a very popular podcast so this isn't new to him. Unlike Andrew Walsh. Seriously, a pretty nice timeslot for a newbie who does not exude very much personality or panache. He's not a very strong link in your chain. Spend some money and get someone with some star power and palpable energy. I'm surprised Rachel Belle isn't being groomed for her own show. A female host? Get radical and progessive KIRO. People seem to love her. And thank you very much for not making Pat Cashman a regular host. I was worried when I started hearing him on air more. I think he's got his dance card filled with the 206/Almost Live gig. He sounds old on the radio now. He literally sounded like an old man. Not what I want to hear. Good move--I think you did right by listening to your audience. Sometimes it's hard to do.

    JC 24/7...
Okay, that's not realistic. But, I haven't listened to JC since he got moved to the morning slot. Much prefer him from 6-9pm. Best combo KIRO had was Curley and Bell subbing for Ron and Don a while back... Come to think of it, most anybody subbing for Ron and Don is a breath of fresh air...

    Thank You!
I'm VERY thankful for this change. I did not yet have a chance to contact the station with my thoughts about adding JC to the morning show, but I'm glad to hear others voiced the same opinion. I dont think he is a good fit for the morning show, and honestly in the past few weeks I've switched back to listening to NPR instead. I'm very happy to switch back and enjoy KIRO once again!

    Love the new lineup except....
something needs to be done with the 12-3 slot because I always have to change the station at that time.

John Curley's stories made me tune in
During morning farm chores, I habitually wear my Zune. Listening to John Curley and the ensemble morning crew made me tune in to KIRO instead of just playing music. John's stories made me laugh and cry. I also love the dynamic between Dave and Luke, and though I'm glad they still have an hour together, the interplay between the two is what made the 9-12 slot really work. I for one had been enjoying the KIRO morning programming and am sorry to see that it is changing yet again.
