Add to your holiday spirit with boozy baking
SPONSORED — Want to add to your holiday spirit?
How about adding spirits to your holiday meal not just in the drinks you drink with your meal, but adding those spirits TO your meal.
From the main course to the side dishes all the way to dessert, here are some ideas for incorporating Heritage Distilling Co. spirits into your holiday meal.
Main course: a boozy bird
For all the importance placed on brining your holiday turkey – and that certainly helps keep your bird moist – don’t forget about what you put ON the turkey. Basting your bird as it cooks – and better yet seasoning your bird beneath the skin before roasting – has a huge impact on the flavor.
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl.
Use a pastry brush to apply to the outside of the turkey.
For even more flavor, gently separate the skin from the meat, being careful not to tear the skin. A buttered handle of a wooden spoon can work well. Using the brush, apply the season beneath the skin.
Baste every 45 minutes or so while roasting your turkey according to weight specifications until it is done.
Side dish: Bacon Brussel Sprouts
Know what you call a person who likes Brussel sprouts?
An adult. At least when you know how to make them, which includes two ingredients that elevate it from being the bane of an adolescent’s existence to a holiday side dish that’s worth a second serving. Those two ingredients: 1) Bacon; 2) Heritage Distilling Co.’s Bacon Vodka.
Notice a theme there? You will as soon as you taste the smoky, savory influence of the bacon!
1 pound Brussel sprouts
8-10 slices bacon
2 diced garlic cloves
2 Tbsp. Heritage Distilling Co.’s Bacon Vodka
¼ Cup chicken broth
Cook bacon in a skillet over Medium Heat to desired crispiness
Remove bacon from skillet. (Once cooled, cut to 1-inch chunks)
With bacon drippings still hot, add garlic to skillet, cook for 2-3 minutes;
Add brussel sprouts and sear for 1 minute;
Add Heritage Distilling Co.’s Bacon Vodka and chicken broth, cover and cook until tender (12 to 14 minutes).
Drain liquid from pan, add bacon and serve.
A real sweet spot
Pie is the perfect punctuation mark for a holiday meal. Spiking your pie is a way to make it even better, and by spiking we mean adding booze to everything from the crust to the filling to the whipped topping!
Let’s start with the cornerstone for your holiday baking: crust. Every baker knows that cold water is a key to a good crust. Not everyone knows that cold Elkrider Vodka is a way to give your that flaky, tender crust that everyone is searching for.
Now, let’s go to the filling. Add 3 Tbsp. of Heritage Distilling Co.’s Brown Sugar Bourbon to add some sweetness and some cinnamon to your apple filling. Or add that 3 Tbsp. of Heritage Distilling Co.’s BSB to your pumpkin pie. Better yet: Make both, adding 3 Tbsp. of Heritage Distilling Co.’s BSB to your apple-pie filling AND your pumpkin-pie filling.
And to top it off: Whipped cream.
1 Cup heavy whipping cream
1 Tbsp. powdered sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 Tbsp. Heritage Distilling Co.’s Brown Sugar Bourbon
The key here is temperature. Everything should be cold from the ingredients to the mixing bowl that you’re using.
Place metal bowl in the freezer for 30 minutes.
Refrigerate ingredients for 15 minutes.
Place all ingredients in the bowl and whip until stiff peaks form.
