King County still loves these dog and cat names

Jan 1, 2018, 8:40 AM

The top 10 dog and cat names in King County for 2017 shows that residents aren’t getting any more creative when naming their pets.

And I’m not just saying that because the seventh most common name for a cat in King County is “Kitty.”

With more than 27,000 pets registered, the Regional Animal Services of King County has a pretty good idea what people like to name their pets. If the following most common names for dogs and cats in King County sounds familiar, that’s because the lists are essentially the same as in 2016 and 2015. The names have moved around over the years, but there’s always plenty of Charlies and Maxes out there. “Lucy” has been among the rankings since at least 2012. Also striking, is that people tend to title cats and dogs with the same names.

Come on King County, we have enough Bellas already. How about a few puns — like a dog named Sue? Cat Benatar? What about “Dave?” Don’t meet many Daves at the dog park. The name could be a tribute. How cool would it be to meet a cat named Dolph Lundgren?
