THE DAVID BOZE SHOW

Why ‘Superman’s’ original Zod, Terrance Stamp, stays away from action movies

When Terrance Stamp reflects back on his "Superman" days, he points to working with director Richard Donner as a highlight.

The release of “Man of Steel” meant that Terrance Stamp was no longer the only General Zod in town.

But when it comes to action movies like the newest Superman movie, Stamp says it’s not really his speed anymore.

Stamp tells KTTH’s David Boze, “I was only ever really interested in the actors, their performance.”

When he reflects back on his “Superman” days, he points to working with director Richard Donner as a highlight. “He brought the comics to life. He understood the humor, the irony, and the action. So for me, it was just a wonderful moment in my life – to be doing that and to be working with my idol, Marlon Brando,” says Stamp. “I think the (original) still stands out.”

But he doesn’t see many big blockbusters these days, in part because he thinks that the performance of the actors gets lost in the “computer generated stuff.”

You can see his new film, “Unfinished Song,” at the Grand Cinema in Tacoma.
