Portland beats Seattle to electric cars

I was reading this piece from the Oregonian about their purchase of Nissan Leaf electric cars and I couldn’t help but chuckle. Sure they’re paying luxury vehicle prices for tiny cars, but hey, the U.S. government is going to pay for 90% of the cost for the charging stations! Yeah! But the part that made me laugh was the media talk. Apparently, they were trying to talk Mayor Sam Adams into taking a Leaf, but he’s sticking with his hybrid–of course, it makes no “green” sense to ditch a perfectly good car for another–but the conversation shows the motivation is more about taking advantage of media opportunities to highlight their GREEN STATUS than to actually do something that makes economic sense.
This is sure to be a new chapter if Todd Meyers’ does a 2nd edition of Eco-Fads.
