A 35-year-old man who told his wife he was suicidal was killed by Snohomish County deputies Sunday night.

The man was shot and killed after coming out of his car holding what police say appeared to be a weapon.

Investigators say they found a gun at the scene.

An hour prior, the man’s wife reported that her husband was suicidal and told her he wanted police to kill him.

The search for the man ended when cops found his vehicle parked in a parking lot in Ebey Island. Deputies tried talking to him but he wasn’t cooperating. That’s when the deputies fired multiple shots and killed him underneath the US 2 trestle around 9:30 p.m.

Lieutenant Steve McDonald says the three responding deputies were not injured. The deputies will be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
