Eagles head coach Doug Pederson...

Anyone grasping for a reason to cheer about the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory, other than having pure hatred for the New England Patriots, need only to look as far Ferndale.

Tom Brady video is incredibly lame

Eagles Head Coach Doug Pederson was born in Bellingham. He attended high school in Ferndale, where he was an All-State athlete. He went on to play and coach in the NFL.

He’s been the head coach of the Eagles since 2016.

For those who don’t know where Ferndale is, it is a small city — population of 11,415 during the 2010 census — located just north of Bellingham.

On Sunday evening, as Eagles fans went out to celebrate their first Super Bowl championship in franchise history, Google searches for “Ferndale” spiked in Western Washington for the day. Spiked is used loosely here.

So, either people were searching “Ferndale” for places to chow down after the big game, or the Eagles suddenly gained a much bigger Western Washington fan base as people tried to forget that the Seahawks didn’t even make the playoffs.

Even Gov. Jay Inslee jumped on board, tweeting “Congrats to Ferndale’s Doug Pederson on the hard fought victory for the @Eagles – now I can return rooting to the @Seahawks.”

Thankfully, though, Inslee and the rest of us will be able to jump back on the Seahawks bandwagon soon. According to quarterback Russell Wilson, the Hawks will be back in the Super Bowl next season.

Doug Pederson Day

The mayor of the City of Ferndale has officially proclaimed that Feb. 6 will be known as “Doug Pederson Day.”
