Easier to Win Elections than Revolutions

A disturbing new poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University showed that nearly a third of Americans agreed with the statement, “In the next few years an armed revolution might be necessary in order to protect our liberties.” Among Republicans, a shocking 44% agreed—suggesting that they must think violence could advance their cause more effectively than politics.
This survey reflects ill-informed, apocalyptic speculation about new federal plans to disarm and subjugate citizens—even while defenders of the Second Amendment are winning, not losing, our battle to preserve gun rights.
Moreover, when anyone speculates about violence against cops or soldiers he only marginalizes and discredits his own cause. “Armed revolution” daydreamers can’t answer a simple, pertinent question: if you don’t have enough support to win an election, how will you get enough support to win a bloody civil war?
