When the governor of Florida was asked after Wednesday’s school shooting if he was willing to take a stand on mental health and gun control, his answer was there’s a time for that.

Family suspect lived with is in shock

But, of course, now is not that time. Now is the time for grief counselors and funerals, which, as the attorney general assured everyone, the state will pay for.

“We will pay for the funeral expenses of these poor victims and do everything to help their families.”

She promised that the paperwork would be promptly delivered to the victims’ families.

Now is also the time for the sheriff to remind everyone to report suspicious social media postings.

“If you are on a website, you see a person with rifles and weaponry, and you see something that’s not right, you owe it to law enforcement to make this a safer nation by calling up someone.”

But his bottom line was that all the police can do is be ready to respond.

Which they did — Within minutes. The teachers locked down their rooms, the first responders saved lives, the shooter was caught. Everything worked exactly as it should.

Gun control advocates in Washington have a fight on their hands

And yet, as the governor said, this is the universe we live in.

“You come to the conclusion this is absolutely pure evil.”

He’s right; it is pure evil. We all know it’s pure evil. What we can’t discuss, because the time has not yet come, is why is this pure evil so well armed?

Ross: Are we killing car culture? Or is car culture killing the US?

I don’t think the question is whether we're going to "kill" our car culture. The real question is can we stop our car culture from killing the U.S.?
