Mariners prospect makes promise to mom

This will probably be the first time many of you have heard the name Braden Bishop.

He’s a prospect for the Seattle Mariners. He also played ball for the University of Washington, so maybe more of you have heard of him than I think. Either way, you’ll want to know Braden Bishop’s name if only for what he’s doing for his mother.

The Seattle Times says three years ago, his mother, at the age of 55, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He knew very little about it then, but considers himself an “amateur expert” now.

On the way to “amateur expert” level, he threw himself into fundraising efforts for Alzheimer’s research. And now has an official charity called 4Mom. He recently launched a new initiative to raise money for research by tweeting out that for every hit he gets during Spring Training, he’ll donate money to the cause.

Now, 90 people, including other MLB players, have vowed to do the same.

It’s a wonderful story in The Seattle Times. I’d recommend reading this feel-good story to also learn what he has stitched on his glove. See if you can spot it next time he’s on the field.
