5 things to do in Anacortes this spring

SPONSORED — From sea to shining sea, there’s no end of activities on this island. If you’re looking to have a spring fling — or an all-out vacation — make sure Anacortes is on your list of destinations. From world-class hiking trails to endless scenic beauty, this small sea village offers everything you could want in a getaway. Here’s what’s you can experience in the coming months.

Take time to wine

Drinking before 5 p.m.? No problem. In Anacortes, it’s OK to “wine” anytime — especially at the Spring Wine Festival. This annual event features 30 wineries from around the state, all touting their best of the barrel. Aside from a good glass (or six) of wine, the festival also includes music, art, shopping and delicious appetizers and other tasty bites from local restaurants. The festival is for everyone 21 and over, and VIP ticket buyers get in 90 minutes early. The event starts April 7 at noon for VIPs (1:30 p.m. for general admission) and runs until 5. Be sure to pick up your VIP tickets early!

Go ‘vintage’ at the market

Anacortes takes shabby chic to a whole new level. Friday, April 27, to Saturday, April 28, you can experience “Vintage by the Sea,” the ultimate vintage shopping experience. Enjoy a complimentary beverage and special entrance treat before perusing an amazing curated collection of home décor vendors — and more. From antiques to garden goodies to upcycled décor, you’ll find something (or several things) you have to take home with you.

And while you’re shopping, you can do some good. Bring at least two cans of food for charity and you’ll get in for just $5 at the door. Planning ahead? Get your tickets in advance.

Plant yourself for the tulip festival

Nothing says spring like the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. If you’ll be attending the festivities, make a weekend of your trip and hunker down in Anacortes for some pre- and post-festival fun. The festival, which runs the entire month of April, entrances visitors with its endless supply of bright, beautiful tulips — all grown by the state’s best growers. With the festival an easy 25-minute drive from Anacortes, you can enjoy a morning meal at a cozy bed-and-breakfast or take a scenic early hike before making the trip. Afterward, relax with a drink in one of the town’s acclaimed restaurants.
