Here are a few tips for potential adopters interested in adoption a puppy or kitten:

1. Check our website daily, especially in the evening. We often post photos and descriptions of puppies and kittens that will be available the following day. You can also call our Adoption Department at (425) 649-7563 to inquire about available animals.

2. Get here early! Seattle Humane is open from 11a.m.-6p.m., Sunday-Wednesday and 11a.m.-8p.m., Thursday-Saturday. It’s a good idea to show up at least 30 minutes prior to opening to secure your place in line. All pets are available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.

-We can’t place holds on animals over the phone or through e-mail. We don’t place holds on puppies or kittens so be prepared to take home your new companion that day.

3. Have your Pre-Adoption Questionnaire completed in advance – those first in line with a completed questionnaire have priority on the first-come, first-served list. If you already know the pet you would like to meet, please give your questionnaire to an Adoption Advisor in the lobby to be placed on the advising wait list.
-You may print a Pre-Adoption Questionnaire in advance from our website
-If you’re a renter, please provide proof (a lease or signed document from your landlord) that your place of residence does allow pets. Please be aware that verbal permission from your landlord may be required.

4. Please be prepared to wait at least 20-30 minutes before you speak with an Adoption Advisor. They must advise each customer on the list, in order of their arrival with a questionnaire. We want to talk to you about each pet you’re interested in prior to you meeting them.

-The advising process generally takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the animal and any questions or concerns you may have.
-Remember that all adoptions are pending the approval of an Adoption Advisor.

-Also, all puppies and dogs must leave with a leash and collar. If you haven’t purchased these prior to adoption, we will require you to purchase them from Seattle Humane. Cats and kittens require a carrier, we have cardboard carriers available for a small fee.
