The suspect in a double homicide that occurred in Buckley Wednesday, March 15, was shot by a Thurston County Sheriff’s sergeant in Tumwater.

Investigators with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said police got a call from the suspect’s brother who had just spoke with their father. The father said he was going to have to have a talk with his son because he was concerned that he had a gun.

When police arrived at the Buckley home about 7 p.m. Wednesday, they found the bodies of the mother and father but no sign of the son.

Officers determined he had rented a car and an alert was sent out to law enforcement just after midnight Thursday.

Around 1:15 a.m. Thursday, officers spotted the 21-year-old man’s rental car in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn at 1620 74th Avenue Southwest in Tumwater.

Officers called for additional units and a sergeant with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office responded.

“The suspect decided he was going to leave the parking lot. He was ordered not to move and continued to ignore commands to stop and started to drive straight at our sergeant, who was out of his vehicle, at which time he fired three shots at the suspect vehicle. One of the shots struck the suspect,” said Dave Pearsall with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was hit once in the shoulder. As he continued to try to get away, he was confronted by another deputy who used his police vehicle to block him.

The suspect was taken into custody and treated for his injuries at an area hospital.

He will be booked on two counts of first-degree murder.
