A homeless Air Force veteran had his life turned upside down when, in a short span of time, he lost both his daughter and mother.
Michael Malone inherited his childhood home when is mother passed away, but it was in disrepair and, given his circumstances, he couldn’t afford to fix it up.
FOX 59 in Indianapolis says 60 volunteers with the Home Depot Foundation and a Veterans Assistance Foundation stepped up to do the remodel at no cost to Malone.
Renovations include remodeling the bathroom, installing new floors and painting the interior.
Malone says this reversal of fortune is overwhelming.
“I’m touched by the generosity of people. It just blows me away that there are people truly that kind. So, it absolutely restores my view of humanity now,” he said.
Malone will be able to move in this week, but the volunteers’ work isn’t done. They’ve decided to stick around and get Malone some furniture for his renovated home.
