Scarves Up

Scarves are to soccer what hats are to baseball, a show of fan unity and solidarity with your favorite team. The tradition is linked to the birthplace of the game, England. As the game spread from Great Britain across Europe, matches were often played in winter. Since jerseys, sweaters and the like couldn't be seen under heavy coats, fans turned to scarves to show their support. The scarf is now ubiquitous across the world including with Sounders FC supporters, who proudly raise their scarves at the start of each match and throughout.
