After two postponed weekends due to weather, WSDOT got things back in gear with Revive I-5 last weekend.
Crews paved about 1,500 cubic yards of concrete and replaced the left half of seven expansion joints between the University on-ramp and Mercer off-ramp according to Tom Pearce from WSDOT.
Northbound I-5 was down to two lanes from Michigan to Olive Way, which resulted in four-to-five-mile backups.
Diversion to northbound Highway 99, First Avenue South, Fourth Avenue South resulted in long delays.
Northbound I-405 was also jammed. More drivers were avoiding northbound I-5 by driving to the Eastside to cross Lake Washington into downtown.
You can expect similar issues again this weekend.
Northbound I-5 will be down to two lanes from Michigan Street to SR 520.
Ramps that will close:
- Dearborn Street on-ramp to northbound I-5
- Northbound I-5 off-ramp to Seneca Street
- University Street on-ramp to northbound I-5
- Mercer Street on-ramp to northbound I-5
The Washington State Department of Transportation says there will be lane restrictions early Saturday morning through 11 a.m. Sunday on northbound I-5 between SR 520 and NE 45th/50th streets as well.
