Seattle Mayor Ed Murray isn’t happy just taking away our beloved Columbus Day. Oh, no! This Progressive leader is now going after Groundhog Day, proclaiming February 2 to be known as “Always a 12” Day.
In an online post, the mayor calls the Seahawks a “class act” and even though the loss was “heartbreaking,” the team played with a bunch of heart! He says that the entire city is proud of their accomplishments!

While I agree with his sentiment, to rid our culture of Groundhog Day is an abuse – an abuse against Punxsutawney Phil and everything that little groundhog stands for! I suspect this is yet another politically correct move by a politically correct mayor to placate the politically correct animal rights groups. Granted, the last groundhog was killed after NY Governor Bill de Blasio dropped him… but still. Political correctness!
Join me, proud 12s, in pushing “Always a 12” Day to a less meaningful day, not already designated an important, national holiday. Like, July 4.
The mayor’s office responded:
“I’m sorry that our public declaration of Seahawk support may have offended you or any of Punxsutawney Phil’s fans. It certainly was not our intention.
It’s just that after yesterday’s heartbreaking Super Bowl loss, we believe it’s important to thank the team and all the players for a phenomenal year and let them know that we are proud of everything they’ve accomplished.”
But yes, life is full of choices, some difficult, and some not. The simple fact is: for Seattle, February 2 is “Always a 12” day.
