Everett auto shop trying to give away used car for charity

A free car is usually something sensational heard on game shows or from talk show hosts. But in Everett, one auto shop is giving away a free car to someone simply for being a good person.

Everett’s M&N Absolute Auto Repair is currently accepting nominations for honorable locals in need of a car &#8212 free &#8212 as part of its Wheels to Prosper promotion. The shop is asking locals to nominate their neighbors who truly need it and are doing good in the community.

The car is a ’99 Subaru Outback that the shop has been regularly servicing for the past six years.

“The ideal person would be somebody who is going to take the car we have to give them and do good with it,” shop owner Mike Doherty told KIRO Radio’s Jason Rantz May 6.

“Our efforts are multiplied through their action with the car,” Doherty said. “Somebody who does Meals on Wheels or somebody who takes a bunch of kids to soccer practice, basketball or baseball practice for other people without transportation. People who do good things for other people in the community.”

Doherty also notes that the car could also go to someone who simply needs a helping hand.

“We’ve all been in places in our life when things aren’t always the best for us and there’s someone around to help you out when you have struggles. Not everyone has a chain of people to help them out,” Doherty said. “So we do what we can to pick up the pieces when people don’t have their own support system. I think that is something worthy to invest my time in.”

It will be the second year that the Everett auto shop has given away a free car. Last year, the shop got nominations spanning Snohomish, King, and Pierce Counties.

“We must have read 75 to 100 letters,” Doherty said.
Nominations can be submitted to the shop emailing a letter to mnabsoluteauto@gmail.com.
