It happens to a lot of 12s. Yet, as common as this condition is, many aren’t willing to talk about it.
Until now.
Do you suffer from Seahawks Loss Disorder?
“I call it SLD,” said Terry Hollimon while filling in on KIRO Radio’s Jason Rantz Show. “Seahawks Loss Disorder. Every week after the Seahawks lose, it’s like the city of the walking dead. And I’m a victim of it. I was in bad shape Sunday night.”

It’s a “disorder” many 12s are coming to terms with, as Hollimon did after the Seahawks’ recent 27-24 loss to the Bengals on Oct. 11. And it’s a disorder only heightened after coming off a back-to-back Super Bowl high.
There are many symptoms of Seahawks Loss Disorder, as defined by Hollimon, such as: severe depression, glazed eyes, incoherent thoughts, irritability and general disorientation.
While there is no cure for SLD (except maybe another Super Bowl), one remedy has been found to help: talking to someone. And for Hollimon, that someone was former Seahawks cornerback and Washington State University hall-of-famer, Marcus Trufant.
Trufant’s advice may be rough, but sobering.
“It may hurt and it may be difficult to swallow at the time, but you have to move on,” Trufant said. “These guys are frustrated, but they are ready to get back to work and fix the things that they can correct.”
“I know it sounds cliché, but you win some and you lose some,” he said. “I think the fans, the 12s around the city, are taking the loss a little harder than the players because they’re trained to move on to the next game.”
And moving on is what fans need to understand to navigate a football season, Trufant said. It’s a mentality that players have whether they win or lose.
“If they were to take a win, enjoy that and celebrate for two or three days, and are so high off the win, they are going to get their tails kicked,” Trufant said. “It goes both ways. Every week is a new week. You have to treat losses and wins kind of the same way because you have to move on.”
Trufant can understand fan frustration after suffering losses to the Bengals, Packers, and the Rams. Having an insider perspective, he can see where the Seahawks might need some work.
“In the NFL, if you want to be good, it can be up and down,” he said. “But if you want to be great, it comes down to being consistent. I think that’s what the Seahawks aren’t doing right now.”
“The Seahawks are still a really good team, they’re just not playing as good of football as they could be right now,” Trufant said.
While embracing the concept of moving on, fans must also take into account that the team they love may have a few things to work out.
“There are a bunch of different guys on the team, especially on the offensive side. It’s just a different team, it’s not the exact same team,” he said.
No matter how you look at it, or analyze the team and the games, Trufant stresses looking ahead to the next game.
If you suffer from SLD, take it from Trufant: be patient and move on.
