Everett officer pleads not guilty to manslaughter

The Everett police officer charged with manslaughter for shooting a drunken driving suspect pleaded not guilty in Snohomish County Superior Court.

The Everett Herald reports Officer Troy Meade remained free without bail after Thursday's plea, under orders not to leave the state or possess weapons.

Prosecutors say he was not justified in shooting Niles Meservey of Stanwood last June in the parking lot of a restaurant.

Other customers reported Meservey was intoxicated. Investigators believe Meade was attempting to prevent him from driving away in his Corvette.

Meservey had been shocked with a stun gun and had rammed a chain-link fence when Meade fired through the rear window, hitting him seven times.

    Bad Cop!
I hope this guy rots in hell! Being drunk, and not following a cops "orders" to get out of their car, should have not been grounds for Niles to lose his life. Being over-zealous and shooting the guy 7 times, when no other cops fired a single shot, is grounds to lose their life. And to add insult to injury, this bad cop is still receiving paychecks! What is the city of Everett thinking!

    Fry him
I think at one point, most people have been drunk and obstinate. It's not a crime worth dying for. A night in the drunk tank, impounding his nice Corvette and a fine would have been fitting. This officer needs no less than a life-sentence. This was calculated murder.

    Calculated murder???
Please AJ you can't be serious. That would mean he was planning to kill this guy??? I think we have a case of a cop who was metally not ready for a serious situation like this and for some reason thought his weapon was the only solution to keep everybody safe. So before somebody like him gets a life sentence we first need to hand out death penalties that are excuted quickly to hundreds of way more calculating and brutal murderers out there. Support that and we can talk again about a serious sentence for this cop. However the person killed had some responsibilty in this as well, because either he thought he could use his drunken condition to get away from the cop or he was so drunk that he really didn't know what he was doing and most certainly would've killed somebody on the way home or whereever. So based on that I rather have him dead than some innocent person driving home to his/her family that night. Furthermore what selfish and iresponsible person gets drunk away from home bringing a car to drive home with even though they know they are drunk?? People always forget that all your actions, especially in public can have deadly consequences unless you are responsible.

I do believe manslaughter is too light a charge for this incident
Seems more like second-degree murder to me.

Is he really still drawing a salary? Unbelievable. But then again, look at the state troopers that lied about possessing four-year degrees...

    RealityCheck
I'm sorry you haven't actually read the facts in this case. The woman whose fence this guy ran into called this a "summary execution" and "murder". Those are her words, not mine. She was actually there. The guy was blocked in on all sides. There was no reason to shoot him. Yes, this was a murder. You also forget, this same officer has another body on him two months later. This guy is a calculated killer.

    Eh?!
I'm not a troll. I'm just an opinionated jerk that doesn't give a rip what you think. I just care about what I think and want to make it known. I say the things that people think but don't actually say.
