Rainier Valley Food Bank employees received a startling surprise Wednesday morning when they found thieves had ransacked their Thanksgiving food supply.

"We're scrambling to replace the food, but there was enough in there to have fed probably about 1,200 people," said Food Bank Director Sam Osbourne.

Almost $2,000 worth of food was stolen, including canned goods and hundreds of pounds of potatoes and onions.

The food was collected just last weekend at a food drive held by local volunteers.

    Hmmmmmm??........
Probably catch heck for this......but, I made a comment when that cop got shot that I thought the Central District and Rainer Valley areas were "cesspools" (in my opinion). Someone commented that they lived in that area and it was full of doctors and professional athletes and business owners and do-gooders. I have been set straight and thank you for doing so. ATTENTION: All professional athletes, doctors, business owners and do-gooders...I believe the food is free, I don't think they check your credentials at the door. On another note....I think the police should target Mercedes Benzes in the area that are dragging on the ground, they will probably find hundreds of pounds of potatoes and those (so yummy you can eat em like apples) onions on board!

Just when you think people cannot get any lower you read something like this in the news. There has to be some "special" treatment in a very hot place for people who would do this!

and just when people need help the most. I sure wish i was able to help more, but unfortunately we're in the same crunch most people are now. god bless, I sure hope that those able to help DO. And wouldn't it be nice....if a local Alarm company could help them out with an alarm system so this might be avoided in the future?

    1200 Thanksgiving dinners for $2k?
Really? That's (quick math) less than $2 per meal each for the most elaborate meal of the year! I think the community can chip in to replace that food pretty easily. Where can I send my check?

One reads about these all the time... maybe time to put alarm systems in these food banks or better yet... donate to the "Old Dog Haven" in Lake Stevens, most dogs I know are better than lots of people I know. D in Poulsbo
