Mora's Mandate, and...what did Deion say?

By Matt Pitman from VMAC

Mora yellingJim Mora's tone sure has changed over the past few weeks. Going from optimistic, to on guard. His message to open his regular Monday press conference (which started more than 30 minutes late) was a carry over from his message after the blowout in Dallas. Starting off with a quote from his Jr. High coach, Bruce Brown, who remains a mentor to Mora.

"Adversity turns weak people into victims and it turns stone people into competitors."

Certainly the amount of injuries, inconsistent play, and LOSSES the Seahawks have dealt with now into the second half of the season would challenge any team, and Mora has to address that. This is how he plans to do that:

"We're going to find out who the strong people are, and they're going to be here fighting with us to the end. And we're going to be finding out who the victims are, and they aren't going to be here fighting with us to the end."

One good bit of news was that an MRI on the shoulder of Ken Lucas came back negative and Mora expects he will play Sunday against Detroit. Will Herring came in this morning with a sore shoulder, and Ben Obamanu an oblique. Both will have MRI's and we should have reports from Mora on Wednesday.

Okay, I understand Mora has to say something to get the players attention, and keep them playing at a level that at least hopes to avoid another 4 and 12 season. I have to wonder if these comments weren't spurred by something Mora has already witnessed. Yet when asked if he'd seen any finger pointing, or individuals letting up, he said he hadn't. While he didn't back off from the message he did his best to clarify that he wasn't referring to anything he'd seen to this point. Contradicting? Not exactly. Confusing? From a timing standpoint, a little. Why put guys on notice if you say you haven't seen anything to warrant it yet?

Deion...What Do You Mean

Fun with digital media. Here is the Fox coverage of just a terrific touchdown catch by Deion Branch .

An awesome grab! The most interesting part of the play in the eyes of many, was what Deion was saying after. At the end of the video you could see him jawing an gesturing in a pretty animated way. The youtube clip doesn't include the next shot, which was Fox mics picking up what Deion was saying. But have no fear, the audio is right here:

"Y'all come find me. Anybody who want me come find me."

There is a lot of speculation that Deion basically used that moment on National television as an opportunity to perhaps remind teams he's still around and viable. You might even call it a solicitation for a job next year, whether the Seahawks cut him loose, which is entirely possible, or they can orchestrate a trade (unlikely).

When asked about it Mora said he hadn't even seen it. But upon hearing of it in the press conference, saw Branch's words as something entirely different. A wide receiver making a great catch against a good defense, and just issuing a challenge to the defender as receivers are known to do.

Leave your comments below. What do you make of Mora's challenge to the team? And was Deion acting as him own agent, or just talking to the Dallas D?

    Dion Wants Out, Mora Spin-doctoring
I think Dion Branch said what he said as a desperate plea to let other teams know he wants out of Seattle and is vieing for a new gig. His time here has a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. Dion Branch is an injury prone player who's not even an elete talent even when healthy. I think Jim Mora more-less just puts up with Dion. I think even from an offensive scheme perspective he's irrelevant now. If Ben Obumanu was healthy he'd be playing ahead of Dion Butler. And I think the only reason he's on the roster now is because of his contract. Prove me wrong, Dion, but the 12th man expected so much more from you than what you've delivered so far. I was actually hoping the Seahawks could have pulled off a trade with New Enlgland before the trade deadline. I don't fault Tim Ruskell for bringing Dion Branch in, it's just Dion Branch hasn't lived up to even marginal expectations. Maybe he can revive his career with another team. - E.C. First off,,,,,,,,
Deion Branch hasn't done enough to talk smack to opponents ..... So I would say he knows he wont be here next year and he's trying to get some intrest in him.... Good riddance Branch has been a disappointment.....IMO....... And what's up with TJ Housh STOP CRYING AND JUST GET OPEN......BIG cry baby..........Now on to Mora and his Coaching staff... the only thing they've done this year is SHOW they can't motivate this team and come up with a good game plan,,,,So YEAH Jim Mora & his coaching staff has been a disappointment so far this year.......
