Housh's Sideline Outbursts; Helping or Hurting

Comments   |   Print this   |   E-mail this

By Matt Pitman

HoushCelebrationThe topic was talked about all day. It will be talked about all week. On Sunday you saw, I saw it, Jim Mora saw it, Matt Hasselbeck saw it, we ALL saw T.J. Houshmandzadeh going off on the Seahawks sideline.

Early in the first quarter Hasselbeck and Housh failed to hook up on what looked like it had '6' written all over it. Hasselbeck thought Housh would make an adjustment to the ball. Housh was expecting the ball on his back shoulder. What happened was the play was broken up by Terence Newman, end of story. That led to an animated conversation between #8 and #84.

Listen here as Matt Hasselbeck addresses the situation. He starts by saying "That's just T.J." He goes into great detail about the play, and says, things between he and Housh are just fine.

Later in the game, in the third quarter Housh was seen on the sideline venting some frustration. A lot of frustration. The arms were going, he was pacing, and he was sounding off. Not even to anyone in particular. His team was losing, he hadn't made any big plays, he wanted the ball more, and he didn't care who knew it.

Head Coach Jim Mora didn't seem to mind at all. Saying it was nothing serious and that Matt and Housh are still getting used to one another, and he has zero problem with Housh wearing his emotions on his sleeve (to borrow a tired cliche).

Listen to Mora talk about the incident.

12 hours for the 12th man gave everyone a chance to sound off. Here is some of what was said about Housh. His mouth, hit attitude, his timing, his passion. You name it, and someone weighed in on it Monday.

Chris Egan with Ray Roberts and Clare Farnsworth started off during "Seahawks Insiders." Egan loved the show of emotion and passion.

Ray Roberts says not so fast on the "rah- rah" attitude. Big Ray doesn't like what he viewed as a selfish display.

The Kevin Calabro Show tackled the topic. Kevin calls him "Hollywood Housh." It's a pretty good rip job by K.C. If Calabro had his way, one of the long time veteran Seahawks would pull him aside and say shut up, bub.

Check out Kevin Calabro who is pretty heated!

Dave Wyman followed up Kevin's rant with a clear message; There is no room for the way Housh was acting on the sideline in Dallas.

I always tend to put a lot of stock in what former players like Ray and Dave have to say on issues like this. They are very clear in their takes on this. It doesn't help, it HURTS in the long run.

You've heard from the QB, you've heard from the Head Coach. You've heard from the Insiders including two guys in Ray and Dave who played this game for a long time. Now it's your turn.

I'm very curious to take the pulse out there. No doubt you're a mad about this teams 2 and 5 record, and the bad football they've played to get them there. Which side of the argument do YOU fall on? Are the actions of T.J. Houshmandzadeh good for the team? Does it or can it light a spark? Or is it just not necessary and in the way for this unit of 53 men trying to turn things around at every level? Is there room for actions like his?

    Just Shut Up
Last i checked The seahawks have a history of winning.. granted they've had some bad luck and at times just bad play.. but they have some proven winners on this team i.e. Matthew Hasselbeck who has busted his behind to the point he got hurt, he comes back early and has done his job with a little rust here and there... then we have a self centered chauvinistic sob one tj houshmamatoldmetoshutup... who has a history of losing, losing, losing, and losing some more... and that attitude may have been fine and dandy in a losing environment like cincy may have been overlooked with his pal ochstinco taking all the blame.. does he have talent? yup but he needs to shut up stop being self centered think about this team and sacrifice whatever he needs even if it means duct tapping his mouth shut... Until then who the heck is he to show up a guy in Matthew who led this team to a Superbowl and many a division title while he was busy losing? that's not how you win.. that's not how you play the game... and it sure isn't how you help get this team back on track.. because to me the main problem is it lost its mojo... they lost that swagger and that belief and its guys like this self centered sob who are to blame for it.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh is a Prima Donna Wannabe
T.J. Houshmandzadeh antics remind me of something you'd expect from Chad Ochocinco or Terrell Owens. UNFORTUNATLY T.J. Houshmandzadeh has yet to prove to his teammates OR the 12th man that he deserves to be mentioned among the great NFL recievers in the game today. Dude, put up some cathes greater than 20 yard BEFORE you start demanding the ball. So far T.J. Houshmandzadeh hasn't even proven he's the best reciever on the team, Nate Burleson has. Stangely enough I get the vibe that Matt Hasselbeck is onboard with TRYING to make T.J. "the man," but untimately I don't think T.J. Houshmandzadeh is good enough to deserve that destinction. HOPEFULLY in the next couple games T.J. Houshmadzadeh will prove me and all the rest of critics wrong. The Seahawks need a playmaker to step up. More specifically they need T.J. Houshmadzadeh to step up. Jim Mora said all his players are being examined right now. I don't think there's anyone on this team more under the microscope than T.J. Houshmadzadeh. And I for one can't wait to see how he responds to a little more pressure. The Detroit game would a be a great place for T.J. Houshmadzadeh to regain some of the momentum he built up from the Jacksonville game. - E.C. Henry from Bonney Lake, WA

    Man-up and shut up!
T.J. Houshmandzadeh needs to man-up, shut up, grow a set and stop being a bad tempered little boy. I take my 8 year old son to these games and when he asked me how old the player is who is throwing the "tantrum", that speaks volumes. My 8 year old is more mature than this prima donna.

    The
Housh's outbursts hurt more than they could ever help. He needs to give Hasselbeck time to adjust to having more than Carlson for check-downs.

    Competitors Want To Win
Yes, Housh came from a team that has not been used to winning alot. He came to Seattle hoping all that would change. I don't understand why he's getting so much heat for acting the way he did. HE WANTS TO WIN. He feels, as much as I do, that having the ball is his hands more will give us the best change to win. What i'm saying is that as a Hawks fan i feel the EXACT same frustration... and i'm not on the field...

    Fans...
Wish some of these fans would shutty if a guy wants to rant on the sideline I could care less because he's right. We didn't pay 40mil to have a guy just come run around we did it to have a playmaker to do that you have to throw the ball to him. Then theres the issue that Ruskell and Comp. brought him here to sell tickets and get Ruskell a new contract, Which if that was gonna happen it would have by now in most cases the team will do an extention before the last year of a GM's contract....not the case here, Ruskell has a one way ticket outta here

    throw him the ball
Hassellwooooosey needs to throw Housh the darn ball! he is by far the best wr on the team. He needs to get him the ball. Hass is too afraid to get hit in the pocket and needs to man up and stay in there. Guys like Housh WILL go get the ball if you throw it in the right place. Problem is that i don't think Hassy is accurate enough to hit the right spot. But, with that said he has a better chance at a catch if he throws toward Housh.

    Just catch it!
Proud, read the story. Hasselbeck DID throw to Housh. He didn't catch it. Blame it on whoever you want, but the bottom line is that TJ is getting AT LEAST his share of passes thrown his way, based on performance. Compare that play to the great TD catch by Branch later in the half. I'm not saying that Branch should get more plays than Housh, but it goes to show you that great players make great plays. TJ Houshmandzadeh is a good addition to the Hawks, and he's even an upgrade over fan fave Bobby Engram. But TJ isn't even the best receiver on this mediocre team.

    Housh got it right...
No one wants to see his team lose. I as a Seahawks fan don't want to see them lose. No one on this team has vented ANY frustration to this team losing. They sit down after a bad loss on the sidelines quiet. Where is the passion? Where is the emotion? Where? Certainly not in the team we have now. I believe what TJ did was good. We need to spark this team somehow some way cause its a frustrating sight to see this team lose by a lot of points. I guess its what happens when you draft "high character" players who are " too nice" to say anything about losing...stupid formula
