Dockett Fires Back At Mora

Comments   |   Print this   |   E-mail this

By Matt Pitman

After Jim Mora had some pretty pointed comments about Darnell Dockett's elbow to the throat of Matt Hasselbeck in the second quarter of Sunday's game, Dockett has taken to Twitter to fire back.

Mora seriousFirst, here is what Mora said about the incident. Bear in mind that Mora never once spoke specifically about Dockett. Mora was speaking more to the lack of attention (none) it drew from the officials. Clearly Mora thought a flag for unnecessary roughness, or something, should have been thrown.

"I don't like it when it's our quarterback. But If they're not going to call it, then I'd like to see our guys do it to their quarterback, if they're not going to call it. I don't know what the rule is, I haven't heard back yet, so I don't know what they're seeing there. If that's not going to be called, then we should be doing it," Mora said. He added "I would never advocate us doing anything that is illegal, nor would I advocate us doing anything that would intentionally harm another player. But if that's legal, then we should be doing it. It has an effect on the quarterback when he can't breathe, when Matt's getting up and he can't breathe (motioning choking and gasping for air), I'd like to see their quarterback doing that."

darnelldockett2Well Dockett obviously heard that and fired back on his twitter page.

"Dear coach mora, its football s**t happens if u ever played the game ud understand, really I would(n't) try to hurt matt. He's a good guy.

Before that message to Mora, Dockett mentioned Hasselbeck in a tweet apologizing for the elbow to the throat, calling it an accident.

"I don't normally do this but I got much respect for @MatthewHass8 U 1 tough player good luck and stay healthy, the forarm was by accident!

And a few tweets after that, Dockett issued this message to Twitter nation.

"Dear ppl who voice thr opinon abt me on twttr Just a #reminder I wldnt giv a flying ***K. wht yall think of me! Now back 2 my cheesecake!"

Sounds like the big man is going out of his way to make it clear he meant no harm with the elbow. Apparently, he also digs cheesecake, cooking, and watching movies in the hot tub. I'll be following @ddockett on Twitter, for entertainment value if anything else.

I'd love to hear what you think about this, so please leave your comments below. Is too much being made of this? Should the refs have thrown a flag? Would you be surprised if Dockett is a little lighter in the wallet after the officials in the replay office get their hands on the tape after they review it, and the other 16 plays Mora submitted?

Start chiming in! Oh, and feel free to leave your Twitter names if you have one.

    Dockett
Made me kind of angry hearing that Dockett did this. If it was an accident he would have apologized right after it happened instead of waiting until being called on it. I hope he's fined heavily. I understand it can get rough but intentional BS like this lowers the level of the game to thug like level, which apparently Dockett is. And he does care what "yall think of me" or he wouldn't be responding in the first place.

Mind If I Insert My Two Cents?
This guy is an uneducated thug who, from his "tweets", has limited knowledge of the English language. How lovely.....to tell the people who consider him their role model and who follow "tweets" that he: "doesn't give a flying F-bomb about them". If it wasn't for the fan paying outrageous ticket prices, this guy would be working in a warehouse somewhere. Note to the Commish: get rid of gangster thugs like this....for every knucklehead like this on the payroll, there are about 50 guys willing to give there all to take his place.

Referees and umpires need more attention
In all sports, it is a shame that referee and umpire calls don't get more public attention. They impact the game significantly. Players and coaches get scrutinized and detail during post game analyses ... but not the refs. The purpose of a ref is to make sure the game is played according to the rules, and when they fail to do that, they impact the results. I think the major networks should have a post game focus on the refs with the head of the referee group there to explain things.

Here com e the whines and excuses
Excuses are for losers, which is what the Hawks are. The excuses will keep multiplying and many refs will be blamed, as well as this type of thing in the weeks to come. It's football, it's a physical sport. Hasselback might be a terrible QB, but he is a heck of an actor! I saw that and thought "hmmmm, Ocsar"!

Seahawks suckin' a bit this season
So, yeah, you may have noticed that the Hawks aren't going anywhere this season and any further discussion about them is a complete waste of time. Let's look forward to next season as long as they sign a new, younger, healthier, and of course, talented quarterback. Look, maybe Dockett was trying to do Seattle a favor by speeding-up the process of getting rid of Matt. Really, come on, Hasselbeck is finished. Yeah he's awesome when he's on but when he's off his game or injusred (which is like 70% of the time), he becomes useless. Going to Wallace isn't really a good choice either. We just need to pony-up and get a star QB. Sorry, just the truth that we need to face: DUMP HASSELBECK!

Take a look on you tube when you pull up Dockets name. Not the cleanest player in the world all the way back to his days at FSU. A guy who twists someones leg in the pile until the point he has to leave the game, someone who try's to intentionally stomp on a qb's fingers... yeah I wonder if he leaned on Matts throat on accident or on purpose???? This guy is scum and Roger Goodell should step up and fine him or better yet suspend him for a game. The Seahawks are over all not a very good team. So true, but think how much worse they'd be without a QB who at least has the sense to know that he can't count on his O line to protect him. I wonder why he's not on all the time or injured so much? Maybe because the guys that he has protecting him on the O-Line would have a hard time stopping the Cougars defense?

NFL should take some action agaisnt DIRTY players.
I guess NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will take some action against the players like Dockett, so that they dont dare to do this again. I was expecting Ken Wisenhunt to take some disciplinary action internally in the Cards organization, but he is from Bill COwher's school and dont expect anything from him...he wont even make an apology to Matt HAsselbeck. if NCAA cvan take action based on the film evidence on one of the star player in Florida, why NFL is reacting to this monkeys actions is my biggest conern. By any means i am not playing a role of a looser fan crying about BAD plays, but i am advocating for player's safety first.

    Huge fine
For Dockett after the video is checked... again. Obviously not malicious but just as obvious was that it wasn't an accident. Classless move on the field followed by twitter excuses off the field. Hopefully Darnell's pockets will be lightened up immensely for his sportsmanship.

    Dockett/Mora
I would keep the thoughts to myself about filing 17 complaints with the league office if I were a coach like Jimmy M. This sounds a lot like the whining I often hear from NBA coaches and players about officiating. We don't want to hear it, take it to the Front Office and let them handle it. In the NBA, it detracts from the excellent game that it is, and same in the NFL. Cockett is trying to save his wallet from a serious weight loss program imposed on him by Mr. Goddell's office. If he was serious he would have addressed it right after the game in a postgame press conference. He didn't. N'uf said.
