Call Of The Year

Comments   |   Print this   |   E-mail this

With the early start time in Toronto you may have missed an incredible moment Sunday.

Let me take you back a bit. On the pregame show there is a "Picks to Click" segment where the broadcasters and Mike Blowers pick who they think will be the days player of the game.

Sunday things got a little goofy during the segment and Mike made a wild prediction.

Tui's second at bat came in the top of the 5th inning and as you can hear, the Blowers prediction was on the mind of Dave Niehaus.

I cannot tell you how many times through the years I have sat next to Blowers during a game and he has told me exactly what was about to happen. This however, was unbelievable. And fun too! Truly two of the best calls of the year.

    An all-time keeper
This is a great clip. Can I dream that Tui has a tremendous career, and this becomes part of the legend? BTW, "Nostro Blowers"...perfect! well done, dldemerritt

Loved the blog post and sound clips Shannon. Thanks! @Chris from Bothell - good call adding it to digg. I even registered for digg just for this post

    Good times
Amazing prediction and a great call, but I love Rizz and his uncontrollable laughter. It cracks me up every time I listen. Liame, lighten up. It would be nice to have a clip of the whole at bat.

    Jays Fan Here...
This is really, really funny and uncanny... but that dinger did NOT reach the second deck. It bounced below the front row fans and into the bullpen. http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=6875479 ...but that is nonetheless funny and uncanny. Cheers!

Exactly what part of my post was heavy?.............................................................. Still waiting.......................... I don't share your "feel good" opinion of a bizarre laugh. How is that heavy? If a little comment like that rubbed you wrong, well I am sorry, but not really. I have always appreciated Rizz calling games. But his laugh has always struck me as strange. You don't share that opinion, fine. Leave me out of it though. Many others have left comments on how they love his laugh. I didn't tell them to lighten up, because that is THEIR OPINION. I don't share it, but I didn't criticize them for it. To be sure: I love Rizz as a broadcaster, and hope he retires as a Mariner broadcaster! I find no fault in him. He is great at what he does, and very enthusiastic; something lacking in many other cities. His laugh though... I am not so much in love with. That's all! If you love his laugh, just leave a comment on how you love it, as others have. But leave me out of it. I may be the only one "here" that gives a true opinion, like it or not, but other closet "blog readers" share my minority opinion;...... like it or not!! If this topic were about balls and strikes or wins and losses, then lets duel. But a simple opinion about a broadcasters laugh? Leave your comment about the topic, not other posters opinions and move on. Pretty simple. Hope you are around when the "real" issues are blogged about. But something tells me you won't be. Johnny come lately is what they call your type. AKA: Hit and run drive by's. Wow, I really need to lighten up!!!

    Blowers prediction
And if you go to Rachel Maddow's website there is footage from her show tonight where she did a feature on Blow's nailing it [and she seems to delight in respecting Uncle Dave as "Hall of Famer" Dave Niehaus].

    Thank you, nursie.
That was a nice find as well. Gotta love the national attention it got. Anybody know if it was referenced on ESPN tv at all?

    The Call
If you can catch NY Vinny's story on the whole sequence of events...it's something you've got to hear!
