Sounders' Montero the MLS Newcomer of the Year

Montero finished tied for third in goals (12) and game- winning goals (4). He led MLS in shots (86) and was seventh in attempts on goal (32).

The 22-year-old Colombian was among Seattle's four representatives in this year's MLS All-Star game.

Seattle was certain to win the Newcomer of the Year award. Goalkeeper Kasey Keller and midfielder Freddie Ljungberg were the other two finalists.

Montero came to Sounders from Deportivo Cali. He twice led the Colombian First Division in scoring, including 2006-07 while on loan to Atletico Huila.

  Replacing a stolen professional sports team...

  The Sounders have made it easier then I ever thought possible to ease the sting of losing the Sonics the way Seattle did. In replacing the Sonics with the Sounders, a MLS team that set numerous records in just it's first season of existence in the MLS, Seattle has successfully shifted it's NBA fan base to MLS. I'm sure next season there will be no need for the tarp covering the upper levels of Qwest Field's seating. In a season or two, the Sounders should be making a run at the Seahawks annual attendance levels assuming they keep up their gritty play on the pitch. GO SOUNDERS!
