Crumpet the Elf is so over the holidays he's reached an all-time high in humbug. Joe Montello's adaptation of The Santaland Diaries, David Sedaris' witty and sardonic chronicle of the holiday season, returns to SPT with its unique brand of yuletide cheer.
ABOUT THE SANTALAND DIARIES
Running December 7th to 24th, this outrageous one-man show features SPT alumni Patrick Lennon as David, an aspiring young artist struggling to survive in New York City. Desperate for cash, David finds employment as a minion to Santa Claus at Macy’s Santaland. Told in Sedaris’ inimitable style, The Santaland Diaries is steeped in caustic humor and irony that strips away the layers of frenzied holiday insanity to reveal the best and worst in us all.
"The Santaland Diaries transports me both back to that moment of self-awareness in the big city," says SPT Artistic Director Shana Bestock, "I love the way the play is so intimate and immediate - in effect a driveway moment shared with an audience of strangers who become - for the hour that we are here - community in the face of urban anonymity. With laughter, we can challenge heartless consumerism with real holiday camaraderie."
The Santaland Diaries is for the pointy ears of mature elves only.
