ABOUT MEASURE FOR MEASURE
Known as one of William Shakespeare’s most enigmatic Problem Plays, Measure For Measure is an electrifying exploration of the arrogance of power, a story that hovers tantalizingly between comedy and tragedy. Join a congregation of complex characters for an ironic look at the confusions of lust and love, goodness and self-righteousness, and the moral dilemma encountered when it comes to standing up for oneself.
“I am drawn to Measure for Measure because it is a story that raises some tough questions,” says Director and SPT Artistic Associate, Kelly Kitchens. “It wrestles with difficult issues (e.g., sexual ethics and exploitation; justice and mercy; faith and hypocrisy). And I think it is particularly relevant to our high school ensemble because in these formative years they are actively creating their own character and exploring their personal beliefs on morality and spirituality. Directing this play has been an intense and rewarding process and I look forward to how they will solve the problems of the play both on and off the stage.”
MEASURE FOR MEASURE is recommended for Ages 14 and Up due to mature subject matter.
