Pinot Noir is the most fascinating of all the noble wine grapes. If great wine is the goal, Pinot can behave like a spoiled brat, insisting on just-so conditions in both the vineyard and winery or it simply won't show up. But if its demands are met and it's in the right mood, it is capable of producing wines of the highest caliber; age-worthy wines showing finesse, elegance, depth and length of flavor, almost unending complexity and the ability to match with the widest array of food of any red wine.

On Monday, we will learn all about Pinot Noir. We'll learn why it is so fussy and what it takes to make it into the best wines on the planet. We will taste and compare pinots from all over the world and in the end we will understand why virtually all of the most sophisticated wine geeks dedicate the largest portion of their cellars to this mysterious grape.
