FIRST THINGS FIRST Defense Secretary Leon Panetta removed the ban on women in combat roles. This is a progressive move for the military and for women. Women had been serving in combat adjacent roles, but now they will have 200,000 more jobs open to them and that doesn't even count the promotions that will open later to officers with a well-rounded resume that includes combat experience. // A boy in Spain staged his own abduction because he was terrified by the prospect of weathering the fallout from his parent-teacher conference.
