Show: Andrew Walsh
Hosted by Jason Rantz // More on the Nuclear leaking of 6 tanks at the Hanford site. Frank Shiers spoke to an expert who downplayed the possible severity of the leak. “Any leaking waste, is sitting on top of 300 feet of dry soil”. There is no medium for the waste to go through, so the time table would be in the hundreds to thousands of years until an aquifer impact. // UW Professor Anthony Greenwald joins the show to talk about his book “Blindspot”, who believes the unconscious bias can affect everyday life. He co-wrote the book with a former student. Blindspot is a metaphor for something that is affecting your mind and behavior, yet you don't have direct access to this. Basically, it's the idea that there are things in your head that you are not aware of. Some of these biases have to do with gender and race, and can lead to unwanted interactions, or making false assumptions. Research has been done to see if these biases can be eliminated. // A bill has been labeled as “racist” and “anti-gay”. This bill states that you do not have to have clubs or organizations that are open to all, regardless of religion, gender, or race. Bill is viewed in a negative light, however it allows these groups to turn away those who have no interest in the ideals of the group. // Bill has been pushed to ban anonymous web postings, a bad (and illegal) idea. Anonymous comment is perfectly legal, and necessary to ask the tough questions. Banning this outlet could have unintended consequences on those that need to reach out in a protected anonymous way.
