Colin, Tom and Matt talk about the Mariners. Spring training in Arizona has wrapped up and the roster appears set (but officially isn't). With Jason Bay heading to Salt Lake City with the team and Casper Wells staying in Arizona "for extra at bats" makes the choice fairly clear that Bay has made the team. How does the playing time for all the OFs/DH/1B and catcher all pan out?
Will Carroll from Bleacher Report gives his outlook on the Mariners. His take is this is a transition year with the Angels and Rangers still above the Mariners as it currently stands. He does think when the "Big 3" are ready, this team has a chance to have the best pitching staff in all of baseball and will be competing for a pennant. He thinks it could actually hurt the team more to go for it this year instead of stockpiling high draft picks.
Colin thinks Will Carroll is off base in his comment that it could hurt this team long-term is they take a substantial step forward this season. The team has the parts in place now to where they don't need to keep stockpiling high draft picks. Plus, who wants to sit through another losing season?
