Since the M's game just ended, let's take a look at the state of the Mariners. Are you happy with what Justin Smoak has done and comfortable with him as a starting first baseman. Colin is ready to pencil him in next year, but is a little concerned about his lack of RBIs. The guys take a listen to Bob Nightengale sound from Bob and Groz this afternoon who thinks Ken Griffey Jr. won't be a unanimous choice for the Hall of Fame because he played in the Steroid Era and even if he's not suspected, writers may leave him off. Some writers may say no to every player that played during that time period. Matt thinks the baseball writers are taking the easy way out when it comes to players who played in the Steroid Era. Since the ballots are public knowledge, a writer will be linked to voting for a player who played during that era and can take the easy way out by just not voting for anyone. Miguel Cabrera is playing out of his mind right now and Bob Nightengale as well as others think he is a better hitter right now than Griffey ever was. Nightengale argues if he was playing at his natural position, 1st base, he may even be a gold glover.
