Big-city police departments have learned that the quick release of information is crucial to stemming violence in disturbances like those in Ferguson. // An analysis of a decade of web searches shows the different subjects occupy people's thoughts in different parts of the country. In the hardest places to live, people spend a lot of time thinking about diets and religion. In the easiest places to live, people spend a lot of time thinking about cameras. // After a rash of violence last spring in Skyway, the King County Sheriff's Office decided to up officer presence by increasing patrols. But the e-mail sent by the captain in charge is raising some eyebrows among critics who say it encourages officers to use force where it might not be necessary. // Rob Ford has had some run-ins with raccoons, but he supports euthanizing them only if they're attacking kids.
