The Pierce County Charter currently provides that the election of Auditor, Assessor-Treasurer and Sheriff be held in even-numbered years. If approved, Proposed Charter Amendment No. 2 would move the election of Auditor, Assessor-Treasurer and Sheriff to odd-numbered years by 2015.

Proposed Charter Amendment 2 is Bad Policy Amendment 2 is a bad policy developed through a bad process. The County Council seeks to gerrymander elections by moving some offices to odd years and leaving others in even years. Amendment 2 makes no sense, - especially if you're opposed to Amendment 1 with its weakened term-limits and odd-year elections.
An End Run around the Citizen Charter Review Commission Like Amendments 1 and 3, Amendment 2 has the odor of partisan calculation and party boss control.
Without benefit to voters, and in complete opposition to the Citizen Charter Review process, these Amendments rig the system in favor of incumbents, political insiders, and party bosses.
Amendments by the Incumbents, for the Incumbents Off year elections with lower voter turnout (Amendments 1 & 2), Party dominated primaries paid for with public dollars (Amendment 3), and weakened term limits (Amendment 1) all work against you, the voter, and favor incumbents and politics as usual. No Rigging the System! Charter changes should be driven by the Citizen
Charter Review Commission. Reject all 3 Amendments.

Across America voters are embracing off year elections because they're good for Democracy Off year elections allow voters, newspapers and community organizations to give more attention to county elections. Think back to 2008 - important votes were lost amongst the noise and excitement of the presidential campaigns. Approve Amendment 2 for less expensive campaigns. Approving 2 will make campaigns less expensive and reduce the power of money in politics. When candidates don't need to compete for attention with Barack Obama or John McCain they can run less expensive campaigns. This will open the door for more people to consider running for public office. Voting yes on 2 works well with voting yes on 1 A yes on both Amendments 1 and 2 is needed to fully adopt off year elections. Adopting only one of the proposed amendments would split county elections - some on even years and some on odd years. Approving Amendment 2 is a good idea no matter what your position on Ranked Choice Voting if you love RCV or hate it, moving to off year elections is a good idea. RCV is more challenging for voters and historically has worked best in off year elections.
