Washington state voters have approved the state's new "everything but marriage" law, marking a significant expansion of rights for gay couples who are registered as domestic partners.

National gay-rights groups say the passage of Referendum 71 marks the first time a state's voters have approved a gay equality measure at the ballot box.

With the latest election results Friday, R-71 maintained its lead of 52 percent to 48 percent.

The measure asked voters to approve or reject the latest expansion of the state's domestic partnership law, granting registered domestic partners additional state rights previously given only to married couples.

Full-fledged gay marriage is still not allowed under Washington law.

No I didn't base my decision because of a commercial. I go with a deep sense of care for my fellow human. I'll say a prayer for you and your bigotry. By the way, the clergy at our church isn't gay. It's a national debate within The Lutheran Church. SICKOFGOVERNMENT: Do you know what they say about those that have a deep hatred towards homosexuals? They tend to have deep rooted fears about their own sexuality. You might want to find out more about this hostile attitude you exhibit.

I am perfectly fine with that, as long as schools don't begin teaching children that being a homosexual or having homosexual relationships is "normal" or "acceptable". Or telling anybody that they have to consider homosexuality as "normal" or "acceptable" behavior. Then it infringes on others' rights. And don't go spouting off that the "homosexual cause" is equivalent to civil or gender rights. It is not. One is a physical unavoidability, the other is a behavior.

and i distinctly remember a story in the Bible of when the pharisees were about to stone a certain prostitute. He said to them "let whosoever that has not sinned cast the first stone". They realized that we all have our faults. I do not agree that homosexuality is natural, and i have several friends that are gay. However, I also understand that the God does not distinguish between sins. A "little white lie" is just as much a sin as a grand lie. Homosexuality is no more serious than any other sin. So before you start your charge against homosexuals, realize that they are no more a sinner than the rest of us who struggle with other sins throughout our lives.

T-Web left off the rest of the story
When Jesus came upon the prostitute who was to be stoned, he DID say, "he who is without sin cast the first stone" and the stoners walked away. Jesus then told the prostitute, "Go, and sin no more." Jesus taught the crowd that prostitution is a sin and he told them woman to cease doing what she did because it was not only a sin it was against the law. It is important to understand He did not condone the sin.

What does prostitution have to do with gays?

In this context, both the act of prostitution and the act of homosexuality are sins, based on Judeo-Christian beliefs.

wsualumn, I did not suggest you based your decision to vote the way you did on one ad, as it's clear you believe that homosexuality is all well and good. What I suggested...and as your prior post makes clear...is that you believed what was in that ad in question, that being that homosexuals are denied hospital visitation rights. This is an ad that is fallacious to the point of downright deception. And you fell for it, as did perhaps many other people who did not take the time to really learn about or understand what this law actually does. Did you read any part of SB 5688 before casting your vote? It's apparent to me from your comments that you did not, or you would have known that domestic partners already have hospital visitation rights in the State of Washington.

T-web, just to understand your point of view: so you're saying that no one sin is worse than another? Sorry...I cannot relate to that. Neither can any society that I've ever heard of. Murder is a different level of sin than gluttony. Adultery is a different level of sin than lying. All sins, yes. But there are venial sins and there are mortal sins. Homosexuality, in Judeo-Christian beliefs, is a mortal sin. That's why I find it impossible to believe that a true Christian can condone homosexuality. Homosexuals as people: yes. The practice of homosexuality: absolutely not.

One other thing I find as interesting...telling...
...is that the writer of this article never once uses the word "homosexual".
