TBTL Episode #446 Open Thread: Awesome Music, Awful Movies

It's so lonely in this forest. Maybe the rifles are driving people away.

untitled

On Today's show, music from The Lonely Forest and JD and Thunder from Stack of Dimes join us for their Friday Segment 'What's The Worst Movie You Can Rent This Weekend?'

This weekend's selection? Driven!

    Driven
I actually saw that pig in the theater. Paid real American dollars. The only thing I remember about the movie is thinking, "Holy God, what the eff happened to Burt Reynolds' face?!?" I'm loving WTWMYCRTW. Those boys bring it.

    Suggestion for next week...
It's a movie with aliens, beautiful women, monsters, ninjas, giant robots, and a giant, disembodied, floating head. How could that *not* be awesome? Find out in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers- The Movie! The main villain, admittedly, is kind of fun.

    Minority Report
I am clearly in the minority here, but I'm at a loss to understand the appeal of this segment. One of the things I appreciate most about TBTL is that it not snarky. And if it were, I would hope it would blast the pretentious and powerful. Making cracks about the haggard faces of desperate and aging, once popular, 'stars' is a pretty easy target. And Hollywood produces crappy product and emphasizes physical beauty in a youth obsessed culture; stop the presses, I'm ready for my closeup Mr. Demille. If snark is the rule here, then how about some actual wit instead of a barely endurable string of snide comments? I'm not expecting Jonathan Swift or even MST3K but such a paucity of humor makes me long for the likes of Billy Bush and Ben Lyons. If I'm missing something, please enlighten me. But spare the reply that for someone criticizing snark this post is of the same ilk. I'm aware, I just expect more of the show. In defense of those wretched fading stars with faces like roast beef, they don't have the option to be Orson Welles. Genius can get fat and 'disgusting', stars cannot.

    Agree, Can Bad Movie Segment
Avid, passionate TBTL fan here - one those that cried when it got pulled from the radio but this segment is frankly awful. It's the only, only time I fast forward on my iPod. It's bad imaginary radio - three dudes talking over each other, snarking on a kitsch movie. Where's the classic TBTL wit? Luke: Kudos on running a one man show - I always picture you as one of those one-man bands with all the instruments strapped to him. Hope Jan. brings good news for TBTL's future - miss that Jen! You guys play off each other perfectly.

    movies
I have to agree, the movie thing is not my favourite segment. At the most, it should only take 5 minutes to let me know that I don't want to see that film. It's a poor substitute for TBTL After Hours and Music for your Weekend (which I miss). Loved Lonely Forest though and it was nice having the guest appearances by Silent Nick and the Grizza this week.

    Minority re: movies?
I am not as adamant as the others, but I wouldn't mind if the bad movie segment went away or was less frequent. The Sudanese rapper guy HAS kind of grown on me though...

    good movies
How about a trade? We'll put up with talk about bad movies if we can have Tom Tangney on to talk about good movies. I would love to hear him on TBTL again. Sudanese Rapper has kind of grown on me too...he can stay!
