Even seriously dedicated eaters like me can suffer a crisis of confidence when it comes to getting dressed up, driving to, and parking near a restaurant when the weather outside is frightful.

So I decided to get some really good pizza. I was tired of being heckled by Pete Gammell, so I tried out Piercora's Pizza in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood for the first time. First test for delivery pizza: delivery time. Piercora's was excellent, 35 minutes from dialing to delivered. Second test: warmth of pie. Again, it was great. The pie was actually hot enough that over-eager eaters risked the dreaded tongue and mouth burn.

Third test: taste. Piercora's bills itself as a slice of New York in Seattle and that's a high bar to meet. The menu of pies is about what you'd expect everywhere, with some calzones, sandwiches, pasta dishes, and the usual sides. I went with the combo pie, loaded up with salami, pepperoni, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, onions, and olives. I had them hold the green peppers.

It was a nice crust, baked just right and the toppings had that zesty alive taste that instills confidence in their freshness. The sauce was strong, but not the kind of overpowering tomato slop that marks the gutter level delivery pizza.

The pie was excellent, I didn't get wet, and Piercora's passed the last and possibly the most important test of delivery pizza with flying colors. The re-pizza meal the next morning was excellent.

So drop in to Piercora's if the rain is giving you cabin fever or if you're lazy and hungry. Order it up on the phone.

    That's good stuff!
I must admit, there are times when I find myself changing my route, so I just happen to be in the neighborhood for a slice. Great people too!

    Great Pie, bad people
I agree with the quality of the pie. However, the attitude of the staff was stuck up and self absorbed. After ordering we waited about 10 minutes for our drinks while the staff was busy chatting by the counter. My wife went up to ask for our drinks politely. She was told they were coming. It took another 2-3 minutes from that point for them to stop chatting and get our drinks. Once they arrived with the pizza we were never checked with again until we went up to pay for our bill. I think they try to rest on the fact that they have good pie. But it is a total package for us. Food and service.

    Enough of the free advertising....
This advertisement for a pizza joint has been in this "top story" listing for quite awhile. When did KIRO try to start disguising ads as actual news stories? The writer of this ad makes it sound like if you order a pizza at this joint you get the "experience of a lifetime, including happy ending". Make it stop, please?

    Bad Service ? I won't go!
Despite the reports of good food, the fact that several commented about the bad service means I will not waste my time darkening their doorway or muddying up their floors with my wet shoes. I will put up with average food if the service and personality of the place makes up for it. But, if the service is as describe here by these few comments then even if they had the best pizza on the planet I will not waste my time. After all, my main reason for eating out is the total experience and not the food. If I wanted merely great food I would stay home.
