Spring into Style!
Two weeks ago, I came back to Seattle after a relaxing week in Palm Springs. The transition wasn't so bad. Mid-90s in Palm Springs, near 80 in Seattle. I happily wore short sleeves, capris, sandals, and a dress one day. But these last few days feel more like March than May. What's the deal?
Thankfully, there's plenty of bright-colored denim, flirty dresses, and colorful sandals that will brighten up even the grayest of Seattle afternoons. And it's almost June, which means July isn't too far away, which really means...summer is almost here!
So in the meantime, spring into style with these top trends:
1. Colored Denim

If you're too freaked out to wear neon pink jeans, ease your way into the trend with cobalt blue, mint green, or soft coral. Coral is essentially a neutral that will go with nearly anything. And cobalt blue looks stunning paired with a complementary color like orange, or simply pair it with a crisp white blouse. Try J. Brand or Current/Elliott, both designers make super cute skinnies in electrifying hues.
2. Summer Dresses

Like denim, I'm loving all the bright-colored dresses everywhere. Citrus, fuschia, and blue ombre minis and maxis stand alone and don't need too many accessories paired with them. If you're heading to a beach for a little spring vacation, look around for maxi dresses by Gypsy. They're light, airy, and look stunning with a flat sandal and a chunky bangle.
3. Knits and Lace

I just found an amazing dress from Sway & Cake on 6th and Stewart by Eternal Sunshine Creations Clothing. Simple, fun, and heavy enough that it won't snag on my purse. The detailed embroidery made it worth the price! Lace is also so sweet, simple, and elegant. I've seen them on skirts, shorts, tops, swimwear, and pretty dresses. Pair a white lacy top with medium-wash denim or soft prints.

Fashion Friday - Hunger Games and Dangerous Louboutins
Okay guys, it's been a while, but I'm back!
Let's start off with some fun fashion news for Friday the 13th…
First and foremost, have you heard about Calvin Klein's new 'Katniss' dress? I knew the Hunger Games would certainly inspire a lot of different things, but not high-end fashion. Check it out here:

Oh, and if you're interested, the beige frock will set you back $5,000. But at least you'll battle in the arena in style!
Speaking of Hunger Games, it's become quite the theme for weddings recently. Buzzfeed posted a wedding photo gallery (beautiful photos too, I must say). The bride carried a bow and arrow, held colorful berries in her hands, and incorporated a mockingjay pin into her wedding cake.

And finally, rounding out the odd fashion stories, a woman in San Francisco is accused of attacking a man with the heel of her Louboutin shoe.

The woman was outside a San Francisco bar when she understandably took off her heels in exchange for some flip flops in her purse (it's hard walking in those things, you know), when a man accidentally knocked over one of her treasured Louboutins. So, of course, the man accompanying the woman punched the guy in the face. I mean, WHO kicks your Louboutins? The man who committed this fashion crime was taken aback and asked why he was punched over a shoe. That angered the woman, who took her heel and smashed into the guy's skull. The man is okay, but after spending the night in the hospital, he posted a photo on Facebook and Twitter and offered a reward of $500 for the name of the Louboutin-wielding attacker. More on this story here.
Happy Friday, fashionistas!

And the Oscar for Best Dressed goes to...
As with every awards show, there were some clear winners, and some unfortunate losers. And we're not talking about the hopefuls of the coveted Academy Award, of course. We're talking about the fashion gracing the red carpet.
And this year, we saw so many talented actresses donning some beautiful gowns created by amazing designers. Tom Ford's sleek white gown looked stunning on Gwyneth Paltrow. And hats off to her - she definitely rocked the unique look.

Cameron Diaz's gorgeous cream and silver Gucci gown was spectacular, but I wasn't a fan of her hair, accessories and makeup. Especially the hair. The gown needed a more glamourous hairstyle to complement it, and the heavy necklace distracted from the simplicity of the dress. Cameron should have either gotten extensions or pulled her hair into a chignon with drop earrings.

Octavia Spencer was another favorite of mine. I just loved how the beaded silk and tulle dress hugged her figure and made her look breathtaking as she accepted her award tonight.

I was in love with Stacy Keibler's overall look tonight at the Oscars. The gold Marchesa gown was unbelievably stunning on her. She looked sleek, chic, and effortlessly beautiful. The detailing on the dress was exquisite. She wins for best dressed in my book.

Okay, so I have a mini-girl crush on Natalie Portman. She's one of my favorite actresses and she can pull off most any look. Except for the red polka-dot dress that she wore tonight. I was crushed when I saw her walk on stage to present the award for Best Actor. I mean, seriously? A long, red dress... with polka-dots? So devastating.

Sandra Bullock normally hits a home run on the red carpet, but she definitely struck out tonight with her black, white and gold Marchesa dress. It looked like something you'd pull off the rack at a department store. Boring and a little outdated.

You could tell Angelina Jolie thought her high-slit black velvet dress was sexy, but she looked emaciated and almost like she was drowning in the bulkiness of that dress. And who wears velvet anymore? It's not 1995!

I wish I could put Tina Fey on my best dressed list at least once, but she always seems to go the wrong way every year. Always black or navy, always boring, and never reflective of her fun, bubbly personality.

Golden Globe Fashion - Hits and Misses
This year, it was really difficult to find anything that really missed the mark. Most everyone who graced the red carpet looked breathtaking and I loved the rainbow of yellow, red, green, and sapphire blue gowns. The designers really did well this year. Here are my picks for best and worst dressed for the 2012 Golden Globes.
The fashion disasters:
Zooey Deshanel- The Golden Globe nominee must have thrown up all over the front of her Prada dress after a fit of anxiety.

Jane Lynch- Same old, same old. A black halter…really? Designer David Meisster could have upped the ante with a different material or silhouette.

Angelina Jolie- This dress had potential, but it reminds me too much of a Valentine’s Day costume.

Michelle Williams- Jason Woo’s purple velvet dress looks incredibly outdated and doesn’t do her justice. It looks like something you’d buy off the rack at a discount department store.

Missy Pyle- Oh my disgusting 90’s prom dress. Out of ALL the dresses you could wear to the Golden Globes, you choose this old, shriveled up mess that looks like a napkin?

Reese Witherspoon- Zac Posen, what have you done?! You gave one of my favorite girl-next-door actresses a bad red dress that looks completely outdated AND with her disheveled hair, she looks like a VIP stripper who got the golden ticket to attend the Golden Globes with her sleazy producer boyfriend.

…and the red carpet fashion winners!
Paula Patton- Monique Lhullier's amazing yellow dress is breathtaking on her figure and stands out against the red carpet. Maria Menunos' yellow gown was also gorgeous, it was hard to pick which yellow dress I liked better!

Heidi Klum- The supermodel looked like she just returned from a trip to Fiji in this minimalistic nude gown with turquoise detailing at the neckline. The dress is incredibly chic and I love that she kept her hair down!

Rooney Mara- I loved her edgy, beautiful black dress with beautiful cutouts and an unexpected bubble hemline.

Evan Rachel Wood- Simply stunning. I loved her peacock inspired gown with shimmery details everywhere. The plunging neckline gave it an extra punch but wasn’t too vulgar.

Charlize Theron- Dior Couture. I know some may not love it, with the gigantic pink bow on the side, but I think it's fun and youthful, a nice change among all the dark sapphire and black.

Mila Kunis- She always looks perfect, but this black Dior gown is simple but absolutely stunning. Paired with Cartier drop earrings, she looks sophisticated and elegant.

Salma Hayek- I am in love with this black and gold Gucci gown! It has an art deco vibe to it with the clean lines and architectural placement of the beading.

Jessica Alba- Her violet Gucci gown with crystal detailing fit her body like a glove. Another actress that always looks beautiful no matter what, but this dress is impeccably designed and is truly one-of-a-kind.

Sofia Vergara- Okay, I need to stop. Usually there aren't as many fashion hits as there are misses, but tonight I can't narrow my favorites down to just five! Her sapphire blue dress is out of this world. Can I steal it from her?

Countdown to style!
Wasn't it just NYE 2011? I literally feel like I was just at 415 Westlake ringing in the new year just yesterday. It's weird to imagine that a whole year passed by, especially when so much has happened!
The best part about starting a new year isn't all the resolutions or renewing my gym membership - it's finding that perfect outfit while you're celebrating the end of a great year and welcoming a new one with open arms.
Last year, I found an amazing cobalt blue bandage dress that I ended up wearing only once (tear). The year before, I went to a wedding and wore a chic black cocktail dress that I also... wore... ONCE.
Thankfully, there's a way to still look chic and wear your favorite designer for your NYE festivities without breaking the bank or feeling bad that you only wore the outfit once the entire year.
Rent the Runway is an awesome site that has grown tremendously over the past year or so. They've added tons of great designers to their database, including Versace, Christian Siriano, Missoni, Cynthia Rowley, Herve Leger, Parker, among so many other amazing designers! I have a few friends that swear by this website and rent designer dresses for almost every occasion, whether it's a wedding or girls night out.
Dresses range from $40-350 to rent, and they'll send you two sizes just in case. Be sure to order SOON if you want something for NYE. Bonus: Use code NYEBLOWOUT for 25 percent your order!
Happy New Year! Be sure to celebrate in style!

Cozy up with hot jackets
Brr! It's freeeezing in Seattle. And as the rain drizzles down over the city skyline and the dark gray clouds hang low, it's easy to blend in with all the winter drear.
Thankfully, there are so many adorable winter coats and jackets that will brighten up your otherwise cold and icy day!
J. Crew has a gorgeous cobalt blue peacoat that looks amazing with skinny tangerine cropped trousers. And I love Pippa Middleton's eye-catching red coat, paired with leggings (or jeggings) and riding boots. Simple, chic, and so effortlessy sophisticated.
Pair a bright jacket or coat with muted colors for a classic look, or complement your coat with a color opposite on the color wheel. For instance, if you spotted an amazing yellow coat, pair it with a chic purple dress or blouse. And if you love red, find a fantastic green blouse to wear underneath. Check out my fashion board below for inspiration!

American Music Awards 2011: Fashion Hits and (Major) Misses
Did anyone watch the American Music Awards Sunday night? I caught glimpses of it – and in between Jennifer Lopez’s over-choreographed performance with blatant product placement and Taylor Swift’s three wins (yawn), I wasn’t too impressed…except for the fashion.
And while Taylor Swift annoys the living daylights out of me, I still have to admit she looked beautiful in her shimmery gold gown. Jennifer
Hudson looked crazy amazing in her metallic mini dress. And say what you want about Selena Gomez. She may have absolutely NO talent (oh wait, that’s me saying it), but she looked stunning in her long, silk champagne dress that was incredibly sophisticated.
But there were definitely some major misses, including Christina Aguilera’s silver bandage dress, which made her look like an overstuffed sausage. The big, poufy hair didn’t help either. Does she not realize that she can’t wear ultra-short, tight dresses anymore?! And Katy Perry? Did you see her? Who would wear anything that looks remotely like a scroll with pink paint splattered all over it? She can do a lot better. And don’t even get me started on Nicky Minage. She looked like the evil witch in Hansel and Gretel.

Did you watch on Sunday? What did you think?

Marc Jacobs offers award for missing spring collection
One of my favorite designers, Marc Jacobs, has offered a reward to anyone with information about his missing spring 2012 collection.
The collection, which comprised of duplicates from the original samples in New York, went missing around 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The collection, which included shoes, handbags, and apparel, are worth $65,000. The brand offered a reward via tweet for anyone who has seen "any chic truck drivers cruising around Europe dressed in #SS12 collection."
No word on how much (or what) the designer is offering for photographic evidence of the missing spring collection.
Thankfully, the stolen collection can be replicated as the original samples haven't been compromised. Phew!
