Jim Mora on Leiweke, Carroll, and more.
Former Seahawks coach Jim Mora joined Chris Egan and Jim Moore today on a lite edition of "The Kevin Calabro Show."
Mora was asked about his reaction to Tod Leiweke's resignation as CEO of the Seahawks. Despite their ugly divorce this offseason, Mora shared that he and Leiweke are still close friends, and that Leiweke sounded very excited to return to the NHL when the two spoke on the phone yesterday.
"I'm happy for Tod, I'm excited for him. It's a great new opportunity. He gets to go back and do something he loves; he gets to get out from under some things that maybe weren't as fulfilling as he thought they would be, some challenges that he was having to face on a daily basis ... so it a great opportunity for Tod."
Later, Mora admitted that it has been difficult staying in Seattle despite being fired in January, but he also explained how his situation is unique.
"When a coach leaves an organization, whether he's fired, or he leaves on his own accord … typically you move out of the town. You go to another city and start with a new team or you go back to your hometown, or whatever. Well this is my home town, so I'm here. So having to deal with [the excitement surrounding the Seahawks' new direction] on a daily basis … that's just something you have to deal with."
Mora also said that he will "probably" get to a point where he can root for the Seahawks again, citing that he still roots for the success of many of his former players, and that he's been a Seahawks fan since they came into existence.
But when asked how he'd respond if new Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll came to him for advice, Mora had this to say:
"Figure it out on your own, pal … that's what I'd say. And I like Pete, I have a lot of respect for Pete … but I'm not going to give him any advice. He doesn't need my advice. Shoot, he's making $7 million a year, he's taken teams and won national championships, he's coached in the National Football League for the third time as a head coach. He doesn't need my advice, that's for sure. He's got it figured out."
Mora also answers questions regarding Jake Locker and the University of Washington football program, his thoughts about a return to coaching, and more. To listen to the entire interview with Jim Mora, click here:
