The Leschi Community Council is trying to raise funds for a memorial for Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton who was killed in the neighborhood October 31st 2009.

Community members brought flowers and notes to the site after the shooting, and the neighborhood decided they wanted to establish a permanent memorial at the site near the intersection of 29th and E. Yesler Way.

The memorial design consists of a stone shield with Officer Brenton's badge number surrounded with stone planks featuring engraved messages from Officer Brenton's family. A tall tree at the proposed site is meant to represent Officer Brenton's life, with weaving ground coverings meant to symbolize the continuing lives of his family.

The fundraising goal for the memorial is $25,000 for materials. Neighborhood crews will help with the plantings.

The community hopes to have the memorial ready for dedication at the one year anniversary on October 31st.
