Two reminders of a very dark day in American history are on their way to Washington State.

They're a pair of 5,000 pound twisted steel girders that once were part of the World Trade Center, and Buck Buchanan, a former Marine involved in the effort to get the girders for a 911 Memorial Museum coming to Silverdale, says it's been a long trip.

"It started out in New York, out of the hangar. My son and his partner Jason and a sister of mine Shannon, all kept me informed as they loaded it, put the flag on it, and I've been getting pretty much blow-by-blow details."

He says the flag draped truck has drawn crowds as it's crossed the country and the reactions have ranged from tears to people standing at attention.

The steel is scheculed to reach the Kitsap Mall parking lot this weekend, and will be incorporated into the museum.

"They're going to be kind of upright in an arch-type display. There will also a pentagon shape board pad, and then a grassy area to demonstrate the three areas that were affected by the events of 9/11."

That museum will open on the 19th anniversary of the attacks, September 11th, 2011.
