The man accused of killing two teens while driving drunk in Federal Way will go to jail for a year, before a jury even hears the case.

Alexander Peder was convicted of drunk driving twice before killing two high school students in that crash earlier this summer. The last conviction was in 2008 and he got a suspended sentence, but the new charges violate the terms of that punishment.

Judge Richard Bathum sent Peder to prison for a year with no credit for time served.

"This case is sad and ugly and tragic as any case can be," said Bathum.

Peder will face up to 7 years jail time when he goes on trial for vehicular homicide.
