The Woodland Park Zoo just released video of tiny endangered turtles that hatched in December.

The desert-living Egyptian tortoises face intense pressure in the wild, and the zoo says the successful hatching of these two helps contribute to genetic diversity, and conservation of the species.

In efforts to help the turtles, the zoo also supports the Egyptian Tortoise Conservation Program. The program seeks to educate people on habitat degradation and pet trade threats.

The zoo says the Egyptian tortoise is listed as critically endangered. The tortoise population has already been destroyed in Egypt. The only wild Egyptian tortoise populations today live in Libya.
