Ryan Rowland-Smith has been nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award, which annually recognizes players "who best represent the game of baseball through sportsmanship, community involvement and positive contributions to their Clubs."
Each team has one nominee for the award.
According to a press release, Rowland-Smith's work in the community includes hosting baseball camps and supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs, Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Northwest Sarcoma Foundation. He is also the chair of the team's annual Cystic Fibrosis Mariners Care Golf Tournament.
"I'm very proud that every member of the Seattle Mariners is involved in community activities, Mariners CEO and Chair Howard Lincoln said in a statement. "We have received so much from this community and we are serious about our commitment to return that kindness and support to the people who have given us so much."
