The Mariners have announced the details of the "Celebration of Life for Dave Niehaus."
When: Saturday, December 11, 2010. Program begins at 1:10 pm (approximately one hour). Home Plate Gate opens at 12:00 noon
Parking: Free parking in the Safeco Field Garage on Edgar Martinez Drive
Seating/Weather: Fans in attendance will be seated in the seating bowl of Safeco Field behind home plate. Because it is an outdoor event, even if the roof is closed, fans should dress for chilly weather. Complimentary hot coffee and cocoa will be available on the Main Concourse.
Program: The program will last about one hour. Scheduled to appear are Rick Rizzs, who will act as MC, former Mariners players Edgar Martinez, Jay Buhner and Dan Wilson, former Mariners broadcaster Ron Fairly, Niehaus' son and daughter Andy Niehaus and Greta Niehaus Dunn, and Marlaina Lieberg, a member of the Washington Council of the Blind and a life-long baseball fan. Lieberg was instrumental in the Council's 2004 One World Award being given to Niehaus in honor of his ability to bring the game of baseball to life for both sighted and visually disabled fans.
Scheduled to appear by video message are Ken Griffey Jr. and fellow Hall of Fame broadcasters Vin Scully, Jon Miller, Joe Garagiola and Marty Brennamen.
Radio: 710 ESPN Seattle will carry the ceremony.
