Finding a husband through Facebook
Finding a husband through Facebook is more difficult than it seems according to a local woman who's given herself two years from today to make that happen.
Facebook is famous for helping people find old friends, some even say it's the biggest threat to marriage in 2010. But for Joyce Szymanski, trying to find true love through social networking so far has left her "dismayed, disillusioned and disappointed."
"It's still not working as I'd like," Szymanski says. Some of the proposed dates seem to be with people she has "absolutely nothing in common with" other than being single.
Szymanski has tried just about everything to find a husband, from the online dating websites to trying to meet people at her gym. She's in marketing, so it seemed like a natural fit to use her network of Facebook friends to find someone special enough to marry.
Last month she created a page called Find Joyce Szymanski a Husband by 12/21/12 .
"I'm enlisting any and everyone on Facebook to help me find a husband before what many believe may be the end of the world - Dec. 21, 2012," she writes on her info page. "Most of you know me and have a bit of an idea of what kind of man would make a good husband for me. To keep you thinking, each week I will post five new qualities/characteristics of what I'm looking for in my spouse."
She's looking for a man who is kind, ethical and has a good relationship with his family, for starters.
Szymanski's creative. She's also is running promotions on her page: Now through Jan. 1, 2011 - set me up with a qualified date and I will donate $10 to Northwest Harvest Food Bank in Seattle.
"I'm still hopeful," she says. "I can't believe that there isn't someone out there for me. That would be a depressing way to go through life, right? Also I wish this could get a little more national pick up so if you can have any of your readers share the site, especially outside of the Seattle area, that would help."
She thinks Seattle is a tough town to be single in. If you're single, do you agree?
"I travel a lot for work so if there's a good match in another part of the country, it just might work out," she says.
