Swedish shows knee surgery live
A webcast streamed live this morning is not for the squeamish. Surgeons from the Swedish Orthopedic Institute will give curious viewers a chance to see a knee surgery online.
Sean Toomey, M.D., will repair the knee of a 70-year-old man. The webcast will be also be moderated by orthopedic surgeon James Crutcher, M.D., and you can watch it here between 7 a.m. and noon (Pacific Time).
While some might watch and say, "Ewwww," the reason for the live webcast is to provide a front-row seat into advances in surgical technology. This morning's surgery will feature new robotic-assisted technology and other options for knee replacement. Viewers can also participate in the live chat by sending questions in via Twitter, using the hash tag #livekneesurgery.
