Show: Colin and Tom
Bob Nightengale of USA Today who broke the story of the Felix Hernandez contract extension gives his take on the deal and how the team can get back to competing in the AL West. Colin and Matt talk about the Joe Saunders and Jon Garland acquisitions. They like the moves.
Keith Law of ESPN.com thinks the Mariners should’ve traded Felix instead of signing him because he’s much more valuable to trade and net you several everyday players than to keep him and have him pitch at the same level. At the same time, he thinks the terms of the deal will be positive in the long run.
Callers weigh in. Did the Mariners miss the boat on trying to “cash in” on the value of Felix, trading him for several potential everyday players/prospects? Both Matt and Colin think the deal is a good one and needed to be made for team credibility.
